Carnitas y Taqueria La Frontera is the true definition of the American Dream just like his founder and owner Pedro, who came from Guanajuato, Mexico 33 years go looking for success!
In his early life Pedro started working as a butcher at the young age of 15 in a small shop learning, understanding and acquiring the skills in the fundamental of making carnitas to perfection. In 1999 Pedro eventually raised enough money to finally be able to move to the United States and find a job in one of the first Mexican stores here in Indianapolis, Indiana ( Tienda La Frontera ) He was one of the many few who made traditional carnitas and was even a butcher for a few stores around the area.
Eventually along his journey people slowly started to welcome him as his carnitas started to gain popularity with locals and folks alike, those who came from Mexico were very much pleased to discover someone who still carried his traditional style of cooking, and throughout his journey Pedro had met a wonderful, but a powerful woman. Her name is Yolanda Delgado, and very much like Pedro, Yolanda had started to dabble in the realms of cooking as early as she can remember. Her mother, who has been an influential part and figure to her was the one who taught her how to cook exceptionally well to the point that she eventually mastered and began experimenting and creating her own family recipes.
Since then, many folks had always told Yolanda and Pedro that their food was always a delight, and always tasted delicious that even after some time many people started to recognize and recommend that they should open their very own restaurant. Now it had been Pedro and Yolanda’s dream to own a restaurant, but the question was “how we do it?”. Time kept running and Pedro and Yolanda’s dream had slowly begun to fade into distant memory, and after nearly 20 years of searching without being able to find the perfect place, they finally found the one where they could share their dream together: a small local bakery nearly close to where they lived in the south side of Indy was about to close, and this seems to be the opportunity they had been waiting for.
Pedro wasted no time and immediately bought the location in 2018 and soon enough he began the renovation process, but there was a problem lurking in the shadows and as soon as they began the 2019 Covid outbreak began shutting down all major and small businesses.
This had taken a big toll on the progress of the restaurant; however, Pedro and Yolanda were determined, and after two lengthy and troublesome years they were finally able to open with the name Carnitas Y Taqueria La Frontera with “La Frontera” being an homage to the store that had started it all so many years ago and for giving Pedro a chance. In the early years of Carnitas y Taqueria La Frontera they had some struggles at the start as it was the end of the pandemic and folks were slowly coming back to society with now Carnitas y Taqueria thriving and doing better than it ever has been before with Pedro and Yolanda eventually hoping to retire, and eventually leaving the restaurant at the hands of their own children in hopes of expanding and bettering the business.
